Is It Hard to Choose an Adoptive Family?

Once you’ve decided to make an adoption plan, the next step is choosing the adoptive family who will raise your child. The couple you select should share the same values as you.

You’re shaping your child’s future and want to ensure they are loved and cared for the way you would if you could. Don’t worry. The right couple is out there, and we’ll help you find them.

One of our adoption specialists will work closely with you to find the right family. She will be with you every step of the way.

How Does Antioch Adoptions Approve Couples?

Potential adoptive couples go through an intense process to qualify to adopt. Here are a few of the steps they must take:

  • Attend our Introduction Class.
  • Fill out an application.
  • Schedule a pre-screening interview with an Antioch Adoptions Family Development Coordinator.
  • Discuss their reasons for adopting, family history, marriage, etc.
  • Meet with an Antioch Bible Church pastor.
  • Complete all paperwork that Antioch Adoptions and your state require, including legal documents, health and financial records, proof of employment, criminal background checks, etc.
  • Take CPR, First Aid Training and Infant Adoption Training classes.
  • Begin the Home Study process to assess whether their home and family are prepared to receive a newborn safely.
  • Complete a family profile book or with photos and information about themselves.

What Is the Process for Selecting a Family?

We start with you. We want you to tell us about your situation and why you feel making an adoption plan might be best. It’s essential that you completely understand the adoption process and do not feel coerced or manipulated in any way.

Once you feel confident that this is the direction you wish to go, we’ll ask about the qualifications you want in the adoptive couple. Decide your “gotta haves” based on what’s essential for you to feel at peace.

Think through your desires for your child. Talk extensively with your Antioch Adoptions specialist about your hopes and dreams for your child. Ask yourself:

“Do I want my child to have instant siblings or be the firstborn?”

“Should they live on a farm or in the city?”

”What type of communication do I hope to have with the adoptive family?”

“What are their thoughts about education, religion, hobbies, etc.?”
